About this project

yorick niess from Takamanda Wildlife Conservation gGmbH is responsible for this project
With our mobile classroom, we educate up to 120 children in the war zone. The students are also residents of habitats of endangered species, such as the Cross River gorilla. Many of them are refugees who had to hide in the forest. They have not been able to attend classes for years. With the mobile classroom, they get to know the rare species in their environment better and experience a normal everyday life again. Our teachers cater to the individual needs and abilities of the children. We train motor, language and social skills. The 5-day program is so much fun for the children that we often have up to 60 children in one class. The freelance teachers are trained teachers from a local NGO. They travel from village to village under extreme conditions and have to bring in translators for some children. Nevertheless, the success rate in our certified examination is close to 80%. Comparable classes in Germany do not always achieve this.
Our mobile classroom is aligned with the curriculum of the national education authority. The learning materials are rainforest-ready and reusable. The need for environmental education in this region was identified in the joint CRG action plan of all resident NGOs. We rely on donations to fund the teachers and give-aways for the children.
