About this project

Maria Wagner from Games Forest Club gGmbH is responsible for this project
The extreme weather events, especially flooding, in recent years have destroyed a large number of old oak trees in the Hutewald Nature Park and the Springe bison enclosure south of Hanover.

In order to preserve the mountain forest character of the local nature reserve, the Niedersächsische Landesforsten are now planting 50 new oaks per hectare.
The young trees (approx. 1.2-2.0 m high) must each be protected from the herbivores native to the area by a massive and expensive individual protection (see picture). The protection remains on the tree for about 30 years until the bark can no longer be damaged by game.

The special purpose of this project is the preservation and expansion of the approx. 300-year-old Hutewald, which supplies acorns for the animals and houses the largest population of the hermit beetle (Osmoderma eremita) in Lower Saxony.

The GamesForest.Club has teamed up with DreamHack Hannover to support the Niedersächsiche Landesforsten in achieving their reforestation goals.
