About this project

Sumanth Haußmann from India Child Care e.V. is responsible for this project
GE Version
Context | More than a kindergarten
The fact that I came from India to Germany through adoption in 1980 when I was nine months old saved my own life. But despite all the progress, many children still live in inhumane conditions with no prospects of opportunities. As part of collectively exploited communities, as child slaves or street children. We are planning new kindergartens in North Bihar, which will not only open sustainable paths for children. Together we end the cycle of poverty, dependency and exploitation.

Insight | Children without opportunities
For many children from marginalized communities, school attendance fails because of a trivial problem: time. During the day, while their parents work in the worst conditions in the fields, the older ones have to look after their younger siblings. School is not necessary. Wages for 16+ hours of field work are also not a given. If it is, it is paid in grain, in rupees, or both. It is not enough to get enough to eat. Therefore, people try to catch a rat in the evening. In the devastating consequence this means that generation after generation neither education, nor the learning of a handicraft takes place. Thus, nothing changes for the children. The cruel cycle continues. The "Musahars" ("rat-eaters"), as these people are pejoratively called, have no land of their own, which further exacerbates the catastrophic dependency.

Outlook | Giving children a future
Just one kindergarten already brings the urgently needed turning point for 30-40 children and families per year. The goal is to reopen and operate initially one kindergarten. The project is to be monitored locally by the independent organization Xertifix e.V. from Hannover.

Use of funds
  • Legal and administrative organization
  • Furnishing and equipping the premises
  • Purchase of toys and learning materials
  • Qualified staff
  • Small meals
After three years, the possibility of follow-up financing by the Indian state is being strived for. In the future, further kindergartens are to be opened as independent projects. We cooperate with the Jesuit Conference of South Asia, which supports us in all phases of implementation as a local partner with know-how, infrastructure and voluntary commitment. The expert staff has been working throughout India and Asia for many years. We are recognized as a non-profit organization. Your donation receipt will be issued directly by betterplace.org
