    About this project

Laura Munz from Hearts of Sunshine e.V. is responsible for this project
Who are we and what are our plans?
With our non-profit organization Hearts of Sunshine e.V. we support a women's shelter in Tanzania. Since social institutions in Tanzania are not supported by the government, the women's shelter is dependent on donations. This is exactly where we intervene with our association: We arrange sponsorships for all residents of the women's shelter and collect donations to support the girls and women in their daily lives in the best possible way!

Currently, about 50 girls and young women live in the women's shelter with their babies and toddlers. Since the space is very limited, we now want to build an annex on the neighboring property of the women's shelter. This property also belongs to the director of the women's shelter. However, until now we did not have the money to build on this property... We want to change that now!

With a big Christmas fundraising we want to start the first important milestone for the construction of the adjacent property: The construction of a wall around the property to ensure the safety of the residents! For this we need your support!

How exactly do we want to proceed?
First of all we want to try to raise the material costs. These are all costs that are incurred for the procurement of materials for the construction of the wall: These are, for example, bricks, cement, iron, etc.
Once at least a small part of the material costs is covered, we move on to the second important part: finding construction workers to start building the wall!
That means we don't have to have all the material costs together to start building the wall, but can start building and expanding little by little!

What should be done with the land afterwards?
After the construction of the wall around the adjacent property of the women's shelter is finished, there are some plans for the use of the newly won space:

    • Building a vegetable garden and erecting fences or stables for farm animals.
The construction of a vegetable garden and the stables for farm animals will serve, on the one hand, to minimize the cost of food procurement for the women's shelter in order to make the shelter more and more self-sufficient. In this way, they are no longer so dependent on donations, but can increasingly provide for themselves. On the other hand, the girls and young women can also sell the fruits and vegetables they grow or the products of the farm animals at local markets and thus earn a little extra money, which in turn promotes their financial independence.

    • Construction of a playground for the youngest residents of the women's shelter
Since there is currently not enough space inside the women's shelter, it would be great to provide a safe place for the younger residents to run around!
