About this project

Lisa Schneider from Deutsch-Indische Zusammenarbeit BaWü is responsible for this project
Since mid-September I have been in Vellore, a city with almost 190,000 inhabitants in southern India. Here, with the help of the German-Indian Cooperation Baden-Württemberg e.V. I am doing a  volunteer service.
I work at The Hope House, a girls' home for children between the ages of 3-17. The home has set itself the task of helping children who need care and protection. The vision is to raise children to be successful and responsible citizens. My job at The Hope House is to take care of the girls' free time activities. I play with the children, organize sports activities and help them learn the English language.

Only through "weltwärts", an initiative of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), is it possible for me to start this voluntary service. Weltwärts supports young people's interest in volunteering in developing countries. There are various sending organizations in Germany that implement and coordinate the weltwärts program. My sending organization is the "German-Indian Cooperation Baden-Württemberg e.V."
75% of weltwärts is managed by public funds from the federal government. The remaining 25% should come from donations or sponsors and the sending organisation. The aim of the program is to contribute to international understanding and to support other people in the social sphere. In addition, the voluntary service represents a kind of peace service, since the different cultures get to know other cultures and thus prejudices can be created and cosmopolitanism can be created.

Since weltwärts is only 75% funded by the BMZ, the volunteer(s) should pay for the remaining 25% in order to be able to implement the program. Without the remaining 25%, there would be a lack of funds to cover the costs of the flight, accommodation, meals, transport, international health insurance, etc. In order to achieve this 25%, which in my case is 1500€, we can set up a voluntary support or donation group.

I am very happy about every donation to enable myself and further interested people to do a voluntary service.

In case any questions arise, please do not hesitate to contact me.
