    About this project

Milena Heinke from Ubuntu Namibia e.V. is responsible for this project
Namibia is a country characterized by open plains, dense vegetation and a fascinating and abundant wildlife. More and more wildlife habitats and human settlements overlap and create crucial Human-Wildlife-Conflict disputes. The Namibian Lion Trust seeks to find workable solutions without threatening the survival of the lion and other large carnivore species. We work tirelessly to make a significant difference to peoples’ lives, especially those who have to bear the cost of living with wildlife.

The Namibian Lion Trust (NLT), founded by Tammy Hoth-Hanssen, deals with such solutions and focuses on educating the younger generations by creating awareness. The NLT is an important educational partner of Ubuntu Namibia e.V.

To protect the already endangered wild lions in Namibia, NLT works closely with the local community, recognizing that working together is key to ensure the protection of the animals, as well as the everyday life and survival of the local people. The education of the younger generation is an essential part of their work and necessary for long-term success. Only if future generations have a good understanding of Namibia's nature, its wild animals and know how to coexist, the Namibian Lions will have a chance of survival. To create the necessary conditions, the NLT team travels to the local school and educates, sensitizes and inspires the youth to this important role. Only education and expansive knowledge will ensure the survival of the lions and the peaceful coexistence of humans and wildlife.

You're probably wondering who I actually am and why I'm addressing you. My name is Valentin and I work as a volunteer at the NLT. This project by Ubuntu Namibia e.V. in partnership with NLT and the associated consequences are very important to me. Every day I am an eyewitness to the importance of the project and actively contribute. However, we are facing a major problem caused by the aftermath of the corona-19 pandemic. The team regularly has to travel long distances to reach local schools or to resolve emergency situations in a timely manner. Increased fuel prices and the loss of sponsors, mean that the costs incurred cannot be adequately covered and serious cuts have to be made. To ensure, that NLT can continue with their education programmes for the young generation and educate on vital coexistence and tolerance, we are dependent on your help and support, to continue our mission to promote children to protect the wild.

    Who is Ubuntu?

Ubuntu Namibia e.V. promotes and supports education programs directed at the younger generation, to deal with the ever-present human-wildlife conflict pressures. With the Namibian Lion Trust, Ubuntu Namibia e.V. has found a local partner who pursues and implements this educational task in the best possible way.
