Famine in East Africa

HUMANITARIAN AID FOR CHILDREN AND FAMILIES IN EAST AFRICA
Imminent famine due to lack of wheat supplies: The war in Ukraine and its consequences in the Horn of Africa. 

The war in Ukraine does not only mean hardship and suffering for the country and the many displaced people in the region. The lack of wheat deliveries from Ukraine and Russia also set in motion a chain reaction of massive economic and social consequences worldwide. Over 18 million people in the Horn of Africa are particularly affected. Substantial price increases in the area of basic foodstuffs mean that poor families in particular are barely able to feed themselves adequately. There are fears of a starvation catastrophe of enormous proportions, because countless families are unable to cultivate their fields because of the drought, and are unable to pay the increased prices due to the lack of wheat supplies. As in all crisis situations, children are particularly affected by hunger and hardship. They need our protection!

The focus will be on preventing family separation, enabling family reunification and strengthening by prioritizing interventions that save lives, reduce human suffering and maintain the dignity of unaccompanied and separated children at risk of abuse, neglect, exploitation and violence.
