Save lives with PAUL, the WaterBackpack – potable water all over the world!

World University Service, Deutsches Komitee e.V.
A project from World University Service, Deutsches Komitee e.V. in Kassel, Germany
Many people in the world lack adequate drinking water. PAUL can filter water and make it safe to drink by removing bacteria and pollution. Your donation helps to produce more PAUL units for people in need.

About this project

N. Frechen from World University Service, Deutsches Komitee e.V. is responsible for this project
In many areas of the world, people do not have access to drinking water. The local water in lakes and rivers is often polluted and contaminated with bacteria. Therefore, a lot of people keep dying of cholera, typhus and other diseases, as long as the contaminated water stays their only option. Unfortunately, the current help for these issues is, if at all, only present in central urban areas.

PAUL (Portable Aqua Unit for Lifesaving) was developed to enable people in remote regions to filter water autonomously.

Also known as a "water backpack", it is a filter device that can be carried on the back to reach the remotest areas. Handling and operation are very simple; the operation routine can be read from pictograms on the device. It is therefore usable by untrained and even illiterate people. Additionally, PAUL only works mechanically through gravity, which makes additional energy or chemicals unnecessary. It works analogous to an ultra-fine sieve, which can even hold back bacteria and viruses.

Supported by this betterplace project and the WUS, PAUL has been deployed in many countries, especially in Pakistan, Haiti, Thailand and Vietnam.

One PAUL unit costs about 1000€ to produce. It can be used to supply about 200 to 300 people with their daily water for a period of up to 10 years.

With this project, WUS invests in the production of PAULs, i.e. your donation is used exclusively for the production of PAUL units that will be distributed to places in need (natural disaster areas, remote rural areas without supply).

Please give the subject "PAUL" with your donation, plus your adress for your donation receipt!
