About this project

Any chance there is a tractor in your garage that you don’t use anymore? Or a spare penny in your pocket? Either way, you can help us get a tractor, disc plough, and a (solar) water pump to take our farm in Ghana to the next level and support local students!

AYA Farm
is a registered start-up agribusiness that sustainably grows maize, soybean, and peanuts and finances Lyf Jacket Foundation (LJF). The NGO operating in Ghana provides scholarships for marginalized young people who cannot afford and therefore do not have access to higher education or vocational training. The project started after one of our founding members survived the deadly migration route through the Sahara Desert to Libya and then to Italy through the Mediterranean Sea in search of opportunities to finance his university education. Witnessing the death of other passengers in the fishing boat made him describe the sea as a graveyard for African youth ever since. In Ghana like in many other African countries, young people with talents and ideas are forced into deadly migration routes, because they lack the financial opportunities to further their studies or develop their skills after secondary education. These youth are leaving Ghana in search of a better life and a society where their capabilities can be hatched and not left dormant. Yet once they arrive in new places, these young and vibrant people again face soul-killing structures like institutional racial discrimination and hyper-exploitation in low-wage sectors. It is some of our founding member’s reflections on very personal experiences of migration, fighting racism, and organizing solidarity structures that led to the creation of LJF: the scholarship program provides Life Jackets to young people in Ghana, so they won’t need one crossing the Mediterranean Sea.

In the past years, we set the ground for our visions, connecting resources and networks within our living realities in Europe and Ghana. Five people have so far been able to pursue their higher education with the financial support of LJF founding members in Ghana. We acquired land for the farm and are currently growing maize on 5 acres. Now we need support in terms of agricultural machinery so we can expand and increase our productivity while at the same time providing vocational skills and decent jobs for the youth using this machinery. After all, we will be able to support more students.

So please help us raise 20,000 euros to acquire a tractor, plough, and solar water pump! Also, we will appreciate if you or someone you know would like to donate the mentioned equipment. Help us make LJF independent and self-reliant so we can contribute to fighting food insecurity and rural poverty in Ghana and ensure an educated, equitable and safe society for the future
