About this project

The Circus is coming to town — and going to school!

This July, we are excited to welcome a troupe of 13 circus artistes to our school. For one week, they will be working with our kids to put on an exciting, one-of-a-kind circus act, complete with acrobats, clowns, jugglers, and much more besides! At the end of this very special week, the kids will perform the show they have learned in the circus tent.

We—the whole Astrid Lindgren School team—feel that our kids deserve some glitter, fun, and joy, despite, or rather because of these unusual times we live in. The central aim of this circus project is to promote communal learning under the motto of: “cooperation, not competition.” First-time unicyclists get support from those with more experience; in the trapeze you practice respect for others’ bodies; and in the miming class you learn to identify, name, and express emotions without using words. There is something for everyone!

Especially in these times, we find it important to teach our children how valuable it is to live together peacefully and respectfully — and the best way to learn that is by doing something together as a team!

The project will take place from the 11th to the 15th of July, 2022. The workshops will be held in the mornings. In the afternoons, from Monday to Thursday, the circus tent will be available for private events (to be booked in advance). On Friday July 15th in the afternoon there will be two shows.

All the school’s pupils and teachers will be participating, but in this case the teachers will be the circus artistes. ;-)

Participation in this unique event will be its own reward, accompanied by the happy faces of the children and the roaring applause of the audience. Nevertheless, there are certain costs involved in putting on a big project of this sort. Your support will be greatly appreciated. Any donations will go directly to the compensation and accommodation of the thirteen circus artistes as well as the rental of the big circus tent for the week.

Thank you for supporting this exciting project.
