Laptops for pupils in Ukraine

A project from Freundschaft kennt keine Grenzen (FkkG)
in Heidelberg, Germany

Due to the war, a large part of school education in Ukraine takes place online. We provide locally displaced children in Ukraine with laptops so that they are able to continue their education. These children will make the future of Ukraine.

About this project

Dear friends of Ukraine,

In addition to our medical and humanitarian assistance for Ukraine – which we have been actively involved in since the 24th of February – we have not stopped pursuing our main goal: the development of education. We still hold workshops for German language teachers and students from Ukraine and, additionally, we have organized five German language courses for Ukrainian refugees who have found themselves displaced to Germany due to the war. You can find out more about these initiatives by following the link below on our Facebook page.

Due to the war, a large part of school education in Ukraine takes place online. In many regions, it is not safe for children to go to school physically, and in other regions there are so many refugees that physical education cannot be provided to all children.
Over the Catholic Easter holidays, we brought more than 60 laptops for internally displaced pupils in Ukraine (Zhytomyr region and Carpathian mountains) so that the children there can continue studying. We truly thank all the volunteers and companies who helped making this possible!

We only brought laptops for refugees within Ukraine, but we also learned about a local orphan boy who had never had a computer at home. He wants to become a programmer, so he used every opportunity to practice at least a little bit on his friends laptop. Now he will have his first laptop; we made an exception.

We also learned about very talented girls from large families who are ashamed that they have to write school essays by hand and have nowhere to prepare a presentation. And we met a grandmother who raises grandchildren by herself. Her grandchildren love learning foreign languages very much and they are interested in news. However, the only source of information in a foreign language and their only learning device is an old smartphone.

And, of course, we heard a story about a high school girl who had a computer and a house, but lost everything because of the war. She wants to study very much even though she has nothing.

Unfortunately, not only homeless refugees do not have good access to online education, but also many others whose families are unable to buy a laptop due to their extremely difficult financial situation.

We already have gathered several hundred such stories and thousands of inquiries. For some Ukrainians, a laptop is still a luxury. The war destroys our plans and changes our goals, but we cannot allow it to destroy the future of our country and our children, because they must rebuild our country after the war.

Therefore, now it's time to learn. Let's help young Ukrainians take another step towards high quality online education. Let their interested eyes burn even more. Our initial goal is to provide laptops to children who now live in the Carpathians and Zhytomyr region, and then, with God's help, to as many children in need as possible.
