About this project

Millions of people would have to flee Ukraine. Here in Oberneuland, too, there is a great willingness to help. As oberneuland-hilft.de we are getting involved together with the church community.

Due to the war of aggression on Ukraine, millions of people are fleeing. Many of them are women with children, but also elderly people who have had to give up their homes, property and homeland.

Many refugees have also arrived here in Bremen. Thanks to the tireless efforts of individuals as well as entire aid organisations, the suffering is already being alleviated. Nevertheless, hardly anyone can imagine how great the hardship must be to leave behind one's property, one's neighbours, one's home, in some cases one's husband and father.

Out of this need, a local initiative "Oberneuland Hilft" was born in March 2022, with which we provide local and uncomplicated assistance to refugees from Ukraine.  The first thing we did was to set up a weekly meeting to have a point of contact with each other. From here, we offer a wide range of support, such as support visits to the authorities, childcare, donations in kind, help with housing, but also everyday things like "Where is the bus stop, doctor, clothes shop? We also try to make this information available on our website, which was created in a hurry.

At the open meetings we give the children the opportunity to play as carefree as possible on the playground of the Kindergarden. We offer language courses and try to connect the refugees with each other, but above all with the local network of helpers!

As much support as we receive in terms of time and donations in kind, we also need money to make things possible. We would like to use the donations to support the open meetings, buy language books, drinks and biscuits or at least replenish what the church is currently providing. We would like to play outside with the children and need toys for this. Many refugees are not vaccinated and we always need quick tests and masks.  We also want to help with furnishing the flats or cook together, experience things and attend events. We pay for many of these things out of our own private pockets, and many nice things are often free of charge.

Nevertheless, we also need financial support again and again, which goes beyond the donations of time and help from our fellow helpers.
