About this project

Wiebke Stahmann from ETB - Elsflether Turnerbund von 1862 is responsible for this project
The tennis courts of the Elsflether Turnerbund are in urgent need of renovation. The existing fence system is also dilapidated and needs to be repaired or replaced in some parts.
The tennis department of the ETB has set itself the goal of building year-round courts with a certified and tournament-ready surface that will bring many advantages:
  • The new courts no longer need to be watered, thus saving approximately one million litres of water per year.
  • The new courts are suitable for wheelchair sports, which means that inclusive training groups can be offered in the future (a first tennis training group for people with disabilities in cooperation with the YMCA Wesermarsch will already start this summer, the offer is to be extended to other sports on the new courts).
  • The tennis season will be significantly extended, which is particularly important as the ETB does not have its own indoor tennis court that members can use in winter
  • The new surface is easy on the joints, even and has a playing surface without foot holes, which considerably reduces the risk of injuries.
  • In addition to tennis, other sports can be played on the new courts, so that other sections of the club can also offer training.
  • Cooperation with the nearby primary school is also being sought, which makes sense as the school does not have its own sports hall either and the children currently have to travel to sports lessons by bus.
In addition, a lighting system is to be installed on two courts so that training can also take place in the late afternoon and evening hours in autumn and winter. Since the tennis courts are located near a residential area and a student dormitory is also directly nearby, a normal lighting system with high masts cannot be installed here due to too high emission values. However, there is a suitable alternative: an LED lighting system that is mounted on the fence and only illuminates the courts. This way, no adjacent neighbours are disturbed by the lighting.

The total cost of the project is about 250,000 euros. An application for funding from the LandesSportBund Niedersachsen (Lower Saxony Sports Federation) has already been approved, and further funding is currently being examined or applied for.
To finance the project, the members of the tennis department have also decided that the additional fees in the tennis department should be increased significantly in order to cover a large part of the annual financing costs.

But donations are also urgently needed, which is why we would like to use the opportunity to collect as many donations as possible via the betterplace.org and WirWunder platforms.  Help us to realise our dream of inclusive year-round courts! Every euro counts - for inclusion and sustainability - for Elsfleth!
