About this project

With your donation, we want to continue to make the legendary Open Air cinema of the Stuttgart International Festival of Animated Film (ITFS, May 3-8, 2022) on Stuttgart's Schlossplatz accessible to all, free of charge and without compulsion to consume! And to revitalize Stuttgart's city center with the Open Air and its visitors!

Organizing an animation film festival in the current times does not only mean to cope with many challenges under difficult conditions, but also to give a piece of hope and joy of life. At the very beginning of our planning for the ITFS 2022, there was the consideration to make the visit of the traditionally always free open air only possible with an entrance fee, in order to be able to cover at least partially the increased costs that the realization of a hybrid film festival entails.

However, we would like to take up the challenge and also in 2022 give everyone the opportunity to experience a free animated film program live on the big screen with friends and family all day long at the Open Air with its unique atmosphere from May 3 to 8, 2022. In addition, we will offer our ITFS live stream every day during the festival week, bringing the Open Air program to all film fans worldwide on their home screens for free without geo-blocking.

Amidst the unique backdrop of Stuttgart's city center, the Festival Garden with open air cinema gives the ITFS an incomparable atmosphere with lots of animation and a wide-ranging entertainment program! In addition, the Festival Garden offers gastronomic delights.

The visitors can expect a varied program on the large LED wall: Every day from 12:00 noon, there will be a colorful short film program from the Tricks for Kids competitions of the last festival years as well as animated feature films for the whole family. In the afternoon, current short films and music videos can be seen. At prime time at 8:15 p.m., there will be an opportunity for the audience to enjoy the animation blockbusters and arthouse gems (among others "Encanto,", Have a Nice Day”, "Turning Red") of the ITFS on their picnic blankets and end the festival day in an atmospheric way.

In support of the Ukrainian animation scene, we will be screening "Ukraine Benefit: Animation by Linoleum," a program of the LINOLEUM Contemporary Animation and Media Art Festival, which has been held in Kiev every year since 2014. The festival is the largest platform for inde-pendent short animation films in Ukraine.

The on-site Open Air program runs free of charge from May 3-8, 2022, daily from 12:00 noon to 10:30 p.m. (CET). The ITFS live stream broadcasts daily worldwide without geo-blocking from 2:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. (CET) program of the Open Air at the Schlossplatz (in individual cases the live stream may differ from the Open Air program).
