About this project

"I just came to Berlin from Kiev. Every day I changed my place of residence, everything was very unstable. It is very difficult to work like this. Thanks to MiCT Co-working Space, I quickly got a sense of support in the most difficult moment. Now I can come to a comfortable office in the morning and continue working in a friendly atmosphere with colleagues."

Tanya Kommunal, journalist and Media Makers Fellow

Our Fellowship:

The more than 4 million refugees from Ukraine, Russia and Belarus include many established newsrooms and individual media producers. At the same time, people in these countries are more dependent than ever on well-founded, objective information.

The goal of the fellowship is therefore to support media makers who fled the war in Ukraine to continue their work and reach their audience in Ukraine, Russia and Belarus.

The project focuses on all professional groups involved in media production, including journalists, designers, programmers, producers, illustrators, photographers, etc.

Our Fellows, media producers participating in the project, receive a monthly stipend, regular psychosocial support, childcare and language courses, as well as access to know-how, networks and a shared co-working space at our Pop-Up Hub in Berlin so that they can continue their important work together with their colleagues and our MiCT editors.

The Fellows have fled military conflicts and have left behind and lost relatives. Therefore, psychosocial support is also provided.

Typical Fellows' activities include, for example:

- Writing, translating and publishing news and background stories together with their colleagues in Ukraine.

- Verifying news in Ukrainian or Russian media outlets

- Researching and analyzing the state of the media in Ukraine and Russia

- Publishing news and information for refugees in Germany
