Ukraine border trips

A project from Jugendwerk Sankt Georg e.V.
in München, Germany

We carry out border crossings to the Ukrainian border - take with us the goods and donations in kind that were given to us by the partners on the ground a few hours before we start. On the way back we take with us people who are fleeing.

About this project

We drive irregularly with one to 7 minibuses to the border with Ukraine - have carried out about 30 such trips so far.
On the way there we either take requested donations in kind or buy appropriate goods by means of the donations, which we take with us. On the way back we take people (and their animals) who want to go to the places that are on our route.
Fuel as well as donations require financial means, but due to our flexibility and spontaneity, we are able to respond to the needs relatively up-to-date.

We cooperate in Munich with the GIK e.V. as well as the Ukrainian church, and locally in Poland with several collection points, as well as first reception facilities. The first border drive took place on 28.2.2022 a few days after the beginning of the war.

Our drivers are volunteer leaders from the Diocesan Association of Munich and Freising, who carry out these trips on their days off; they do not receive any allowance and only the reimbursement of their expenses (fuel, food, purchase of relief supplies, needs for the fleeing people).
