About this project

Support counseling for refugees from Ukraine!

On the night of February 23-24, Putin invaded Ukraine. The Russian military offensive was the beginning of a war of aggression whose humanitarian consequences for the civilian population are devastating. Men, women, and children have been forced to leave their homes in search of safety, shelter
and aid.
According to the UHNCR, more than two million people have so far fled from Ukraine. In Germany, according to the Federal Ministry of the Interior, by March 09, 2022, approx. 80,000 war refugees from Ukraine were registered.
The legal status of refugees from Ukraine is not always clear. On 03 March 2022, the EU decided to apply the mass influx directive: Refugees from Ukraine will be be granted a special protection status. However, this status is only valid for Ukrainian citizens as well as third-country nationals and stateless persons who are legally residing in Ukraine with an international or national protection status. In Germany, § 24 Residence Act provides for a right of residence for one year, with the possibility of extension to three years. The extent to which this protection status will also benefit other persons who had to flee Ukraine remains unclear. There is a threat of severe discrimination against third-country nationals who are still in the asylum process in Ukraine or who studied there.

What we do

The Munich Refugee Council would like to use its many years of experience with the entry of refugees to offer adequate counseling to war refugees from Ukraine. We support the new arrivals in their first legal steps in Germany. In cases of legal ambiguity, we ensure that people who are in search of safe protection, receive optimal legal assistance.
We appreciate any donation that enables us to provide refugees from Ukraine with independent and the best possible care - even small amounts help us!

What is needed

Legal advice and individual case assistance: As a central point of contact in Munich, we would like to provide a orientation for refugees from Ukraine. They will be advised in detail and according to their individual situation. We also provide support in matters with authorities.
Interpreter costs: Language barriers make effective counseling difficult. Our network of interpreters ensures that all important information reaches the person being advised.
