About this project
According to media reports, the storms destroyed an estimated 95% of the town of Mananjary and its surrounding area. Over 30,000 people are currently accommodated in emergency shelters as their homes have been destroyed by the cyclones and there is a lack of funds for reconstruction. The current situation is marked by precariousness, with the cyclones disrupting electricity and water supplies for several days and flooding roads into the city, making it difficult for aid packages to reach the people of Mananjary. In total, over a hundred people lost their lives, thousands are injured and thousands upon thousands got homeless due to the storms. For weeks, there has been a food shortage in the area, as access to the region has been cut off by the heavy floods and local farming areas have been almost completely destroyed by the strong winds.
There is a state of emergency all over Mananjary and the population is in urgent need of humanitarian aid. For this reason, we are collecting donations to support the local non-profit association Fikambanana Tanora Vatovavy with funds for the reconstruction of the city and region of Mananjary. By rebuilding the local infrastructure and housing, local people can be saved from homelessness and famine. The collected donations will be forwarded from our donation account directly to the Malagasy association and will be used there exclusively for the mentioned purpose, the reconstruction of the city of Mananjary and the surrounding region, food supply and delivery of seeds.
