Help for refugees: Since the Russian attack on Ukraine on 24.2.2022 millions of people are on the run. It is terrible news and horrific images that reach us: cities are in ruins, mothers and children are fleeing from the Russian attacks and old people are being helped out of the rubble with wheelbarrows. Civilians at the mercy of war need our help now!
Help on-site
Thanks to our partner, the German-Ukrainian Forum, we were able to react quickly at the beginning of the escalation and distribute relief supplies in the Ukrainian cities of Poltava, Luzk, and Zhytormyr. Johanniter partner organisations in Romania, Hungary, Moldova, and Poland are also supporting on the ground with urgently needed relief supplies.
In this update, we would like to show you what has happened since then:
- In total, we have already been able to deliver around 700 tons of relief goods such as food, hygiene items, diapers, baby food, sleeping bags, blankets, medicine, and medical supplies to Ukraine, Romania, Moldova and Hungary.
- We also supply Ukrainian hospitals with medicines and medical consumables to ensure supplies for the sick and injured here.
Help in Germany
In addition to our on-site assistance, we also care for people seeking refuge in Germany. To date, approximately 400,000 refugees have been registered. However, it can be assumed that the actual number is significantly higher.
- All Johanniter associations in Germany are active in Ukraine emergency aid.
- We are currently active in helping refugees at around 70 locations throughout Germany.
- We provide support in psychosocial counseling to help the refugees process the events.
- Our rescue workers take care of patient transports of sick Ukrainian children in order to get the children to special clinics as quickly as possible. Around 80 children and young people with cancer were taken to German hospitals.
