About this project

STOP! Micro Waste is a non-profit organization that combines educational work with activities in nature to draw attention to the (micro) plastic problem. We initiate solutions that reduce plastic discharge into the environment. For a plastic-free nature!

The (micro)plastic problem
Plastic is everywhere. It finds its way into our seas, soil and air and breaks down into smaller and smaller microplastic particles. Plastic does not stop at the organisms of humans and animals either. It has been detected in a variety of creatures such as plankton, birds and whales. The negative effects of our use of plastic are overwhelming. Because we not only harm the environment, but also our own health.

STOP! Plastic Academy
About the STOP! Plastic Academy we share our knowledge and experience from research and practice. In “train the trainer”
program of the STOP! Plastic Academy, we conduct training for partners, consumers and educational institutions to draw attention to (micro)plastic pollution and train multipliers. To this end, we are developing instructional films, workshop formats and a modular system that our STOP! Plastic Coaches can use to conduct local workshops.

Project day (micro)plastic: collect-dispose-learn
Together with children, young people and adults, we collect plastic on shores, on lakes, on beaches and in forests. The participants are introduced to the problem and learn, among other things, how to properly dispose of the materials found. In the subsequent project units, we provide background information on the subject of plastic, look at how it is produced and what effects it has on the environment, climate and our health. We show alternatives to plastic and jointly develop concrete measures to protect the environment.

Project content:
Depending on the location, time frame, age and previous knowledge of the participants:
  • Clean up in the area
  • What is plastic and what is so problematic about it?
  • How is plastic made, processed and disposed of?
  • What effects does plastic have on the environment, animals and humans?
  • What alternatives are there and which ones should be avoided?
  • How does plastic recycling work?
The STOP! Plastic Academy is an essential part of our work. We want to continue this format in order to realize our vision of a plastic-free nature in the long term.

The donations are used in different ways:
  • Research work (personnel costs)
  • Screening of current research (personnel costs, licenses if necessary)
  • Preparation and follow-up of the events (personnel costs)
  • Development of learning modules (materials)
  • Traveling expenses
  • Public relations (personnel costs, advertising costs)
  • Equipment e.g. bags for collecting, logo flags (material costs)
