The region Ahar and Varseghan, in eastern Azarbaijan, Iran was struck on Saturday August 11, 2012 by multiple severe earthquakes. According to official statements more than 306 people, mostly women and children, were killed and about 3000 injured. About 183 villages, some of them completely, have been destroyed. The consequences are severe property damage with destructions of the infrastructure, housings, schools and working places. Those who have survived have lost their homes and are left with nothing. Most adults are in a state of shock and the children are severely traumatized.
The Society for Protection of Iranian Children’s Rights in Heidelberg (IKSV) would like to start a humanitarian support for victims in the form of a monetary donation. The donations should benefit the children and the adolescents in the disaster area for support:
1. against poverty and for construction of shelters in severely hit villages,
2. for support of reconstruction of schools and training centers,
3. for financing a mobile day care center for children.
In order to start the above stated activities in the stricken area approximately 8,500.00 Euro are required.
