About this project

David Ehmann from Greening Africa Together/Alle Hand in Hand, e.V. is responsible for this project
The objective of this project is to provide electricity to a rural school, that currently has no access to the electricity grid. The school campus is located in Adéti Kondji in Togo. The project implementation takes place in may 2022.

Needs, Objectives and Benefits
Our aim is to ensure a clean, environmentally friendly and off-grid energy supply using a photovoltaic system, as well as educating the community on the proper use of the system. With access to electricity the school has the possibility to run electronic devices and a lighting system.  Therefore, within the framework of this project, a laptop, a printer as well as several indoor and outdoor lamps for the school campus will be purchased. This has truly significant impact in terms of improving the educational quality for students and facilitating the work of teachers. In order to be able to operate our project sustainably, the local community is being educated in the use of the technical system. To finance future maintenance work and repairs, a public charging station will be installed, where devices can be charged for a small fee.

Technical Concept
For the power supply of the two school buildings, our international team, consisting of students and experts, has worked out a detailed technical concept, a materials list, as well as a cost calculation. The technical concept consists of 3.5 kWp solar panels, 1600 Ah battery storage, an inverter and a battery controller. The solar panels are installed on a special-made construction, located between the two school buildings.

Team
In our international project team, students from Berlin (Germany), Santiago de Compostela (Spain) and Lomé (Togo) work together with non-profit organizations and the local community of the school. For the realization of the project, we have the supervision of the local community partners, who are the chief of the village of Adeti Konji, the mayor, the principal and all the teachers of the school Democratie.
