About this project

The fka - Freundeskreis Asyl Karlsruhe e. V. was founded in 1987 with the aim of making it easier for people with a refugee and migration background to integrate in Germany and to give them the right start.

In the past years, our tasks and our field of activity have steadily expanded. Today we are active in Karlsruhe and other locations in the surrounding area and have an office in the Southern Palatinate (Germersheim). In addition, we are in charge of two projects in West Africa.

In Senegal, we have been training interested Senegalese people in a narrative treatment method (Narrative Exposure Therapy - NET) for three years now to deal with experienced traumas and offer therapies for returnees, intra-African refugees and local people. The House of Hope in The Gambia deals with the issue of legal migration - the focus here is on free German courses and competent pre-integration counselling to prevent young people in particular from taking the often life-threatening backway and to prepare them for what awaits them in Germany.  Based on our work in Senegal, we are currently setting up another local project dedicated to the topic of trauma and reconciliation. It includes a therapeutic offer to deal with the country's past as well as training sessions for those interested in NET.

Counselling, education and trauma work - these are the three pillars of our work: in the House of Hope in West Africa as well as in the fka in Germany. Our project portfolio is as diverse as the people we work with. Our team is made up of experts with and without a migration background, and local experts support us in the Africa projects.

The fka receives support for the implementation of its projects from the public sector and from foundations. Unfortunately, this does not always cover all necessary expenses, which is why we are urgently dependent on donations.
