The entire donation amount will be transferred to our partner organization The Girls Future (TGF) in Busia, Kenya. TGF uses these donations to fund programs for teenage girls* at risk of dropping out of school or unwanted pregnancy. Examples of the activities TGF offers include mentoring meetings at schools and computer courses. TGF's educational work also includes the purchase of sanitary pads in large quantities, which are distributed free of charge to the girls* attending the events.

Due to traditional values in rural Kenya, menstruation is often associated with shame and social stigma. As a result, girls* who cannot afford sanitary pads stay home during their periods due to social pressure. There are also reports that blood stains and external signs of menstruation increase the risk of sexual assault for girls*. Only with menstrual products can girls* feel safe and continue their education without restrictions.

Through the activities of The Girls Future supported by this fundraising campaign, girls* in Busia will receive free menstrual products. They are also provided with a forum to openly discuss these issues in guided mentoring sessions away from their families. Participants in these workshops are carefully selected to ensure that this form of assistance reaches those who are most at risk of dropping out of school.

TGF's activities mainly involve the distribution of sanitary pads. In the past, menstrual cups were also distributed, but these are much more difficult to use as they need to be regularly sterilized in boiling water - not all girls* have access to this. They also have to convince their family to use the shared cookware for this purpose. If this disinfection cannot be guaranteed, menstrual cups pose an additional risk of infection compared to disposable pads.
