Scholarship support for students at Munich universities

The catalyst behind the founding of the Johann Ressler Bildungsförderwerk e.V., based in Munich, came from three students at the Ludwig-Maximilians-University, all of whom had had to deal with the loss of a parent in formative years. By founding the association, they turned their experience of this life-changing and heart-breaking event into an effective project, now helping others who find themselves in a similar situation. 

 

The loss of one or even both parents is a great challenge for many young people. Not only do those affected suffer emotionally; financial difficulties can often result from the loss of income and this can be a major hurdle, especially for those who wish to study in Munich.

 

The primary goal of the association is therefore to provide financial support for high-achieving and committed half-orphans and orphans who are studying at Munich universities. The criteria used to select scholarship recipients are not limited to only good grades; social commitment and ‘thinking outside the box’ also play a decisive role. 

 

Since April 2021, the association has been using the funds raised to support gifted half-orphans and orphans as part of the ‘Deutschlandstipendium’ scholarship program at the Ludwig-Maximilians-University in Munich. The ‘Deutschlandstipendium’, which amounts to 300 euros per month, is awarded once a year by the university and is funded to fifty percent by the federal government and fifty percent by private sponsors – such as the Johann Ressler Bildungsförderwerk e.V. The funding amount to be raised annually by the association for a one-year scholarship is thus 1,800 euros per student.
