Music Crossroads Malawi, registered as a non-profit non Governmental Organization (NGO) 2007 but joined the Music Crossroads Southern Africa (MCSA) Network program in 2000 . Music Crossroads (MC) as a unique youth empowerment initiative using music as a medium was initiated in 1995 by Jeunesses Musicales International (JMI) and presently encompasses five African countries: Malawi, Mozambique, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
In Malawi, the MC Program Through festivals, competitions, outreach and daily training sessions now reaches 5000 musicians aged 15-25 and 50.000 audiences throughout the country. The MC strategy encompasses a set of annually recurring festival-workshop competitions on local, provincial, national and interregional levels. In addition to the festival scheme, Music Crossroads has over the years developed a set of year-round activities including special workshops, life skills training in the Relationship Workshops, where gender issues, sex and HIV/AIDS are discussed in an open ambience, master-classes, tutoring, studio recordings, CD productions, local and national promotion and touring in Europe and within Africa of the best bands reaching the Inter Regional festivals
