FOUNTAIN YOUTH INITIATIVE - Githurai

managed by J. BWIRE (Communication)

About us

Fountain Youth Group is a registered community based organization in Kenya. The group was formed by local youths to Nurture, Empower and Transform local vulnerable young people. The group is based in Githurai which is an informal settlement on the outskirt of Nairobi.

Githurai community has population of approximately over 600 000 people with majority being young people and Sudanese refugees hence the community has only one public facility which is a primary school hence in poor condition, this has contributed to high rate of illiteracy and unemployment. The community is neglected by the government hence no roads, no drainage system, no hospitals and no garbage collection system thus it's in a messy.

Fountain Youth Group has established two projects namely Nurturing and Turning Point projects to Nurture, Empower and Transform local vulnerable young people. Nurturing project involves the group supporting vulnerable children who missed out on free government education and can't afford private education access subsidized education from informal community schools hence we have to outsource volunteers / interns to assiusting in teaching and also outsource school supplies for the vulnerable children. The quality of education in the community schools is poor thus we are in the process of establihing community library to cultivate reading culture and teach children best reading skills. This initiative has managed to get 20 000 reading books from BOOKS 4 CAUSE, whereby it will be shipped to the port of Mombasa and it will be upon the group to transport to Githurai and rent a place for the library thus we kindly request for your support.

Turning Point involves the group offering training, mentorship, temporary employment and assisting the local vulnerable youths establish own enterprises thus currently 8 vulnerable young single mothers with children with disability are involved in Jewelery initiative hence able to earn a living but due to limited resources more young people are not involved thus the management of the group intend to fundraise from friends and partner organization to support to establish more initiatives which the youths have proposed and the group have carried out needs assesement survey and found out it's sustainable.

Fountain Youth Group has registered positive results in the past years thus in 2012 the group has transformed into FOUNTAIN YOUTH INITIATIVE but still waiting for the certificate.

Through any type of support you offer to these initiative more local vulnerable young people will be Nurtured, Empowered and Transformed hence making them better citizen hence Githurai will develop because more youths will be involved in community development.
