About us

TEAM TURTLE Wedemark e.V. is a non-profit association based in Wedemark, in northern Hanover (registered at the Hanover District Court, VR 203879).
Our main goal is the protection of the only turtle species native to Germany – the European pond turtle (Emys orbicularis orbicularis). With our PROJECT EMYS, we have launched a breeding programme for this endangered species, aiming to reintroduce it in the greater Hanover region.
Through land and local waterway cleanups as well as upcycling of plastic waste, we combine environmental education with practical nature conservation and raise awareness about global threats to turtles. Through lectures, work with young people, and information stands at events, we inform the public about these fascinating creatures and the threats they face from the plastic crisis, habitat destruction, poaching, and climate crisis.
