About us

RURAL DEVELOPMENT CENTRE (RUDEC)

The Rural Development Centre (RUDEC) is a non-profit organization situated in Belo, in the North-West Region of Cameroon. RUDEC’s main aims are to assist in the socio-economic development of the community, to empower the underprivileged and to contribute towards the general development of the community. RUDEC works with local groups and individuals through a range of projects with varying focuses.

RUDEC was initiated by Joshua Chiambah in the South-West Region of Cameroon in 2001. Initially he worked in collaboration with other partners. However in 2005, because of a conflict of interests, Joshua took the decision to move RUDEC back to his hometown of Belo, where he believed his organization could make the most impact. In February 2006 it was registered as a Common Initiative Group (CIG), not for profit organization. To date, RUDEC has been in collaboration with many international volunteers, who have either worked for the organization at the grassroots level, in Belo, or via the Internet.

The main project is the Orphan and Destitute Children Project. RUDEC currently has 53 orphaned or destitute children on the register. Unfortunately, only five of them have regular Sponsorship. This means to support the other children, RUDEC relies on general donations from international supporters. With this project RUDEC attempts to cover their educational, health and general needs of the orphans such as clothing, vaccinations, school fees and school equipment.

The Teaching and Youth Project, the Family-Compound Garden and Nutrition Program (CGNP), the Pig Project and the Ecotourism Project are other projects of RUDEC. All of the projects have common aims towards the generation of income, development of social wellbeing, educational development, improvement of health and livelihood and protection of the environment.

As RUDEC is a relatively young organization, many of the projects are still in their initial stages and therefore could benefit from additional support. This support could be in form of volunteer work, sponsorship of children or monetary /material donations. If you are interested in the work of RUDEC or supporting its projects, visit our website www.rudec.org or contact us at info@rudec.org.
