About us
Mnemonic is a non-profit organisation dedicated to archiving, preserving, and forensically verifying digital open-source information as documentation of human rights violations and international crimes. Formally incorporated as an organisation in 2018 in Berlin, Germany, we began our activities as Syrian Archive in 2014, a rapid response project working in close collaboration with journalists, documentation groups, and citizens fighting to preserve digital information of the Syrian Conflict: images, videos, and other postings as invaluable historical artifacts and potential evidence of human rights abuses. Mnemonic grew out of the recognition that Syrian Archive’s workflows could be adapted to other locations where human rights violations must be documented and preserved, but the ecosystems to do so require support with methodological expertise and secure technical infrastructure.
