About us
Since 2025, the Paper Lantern Collective – Germany’s first Community Music Collective – has been strengthening social and democratic cohesion in the Sonnenberg neighborhood of Chemnitz. We bring people together on equal footing - through singing, celebrating, eating, chatting, crafting, and creating side by side.
Together with local partners, we develop open and free musical workshops for different groups in the community and organize inspiring, collective events. In addition, we advise cultural and social institutions on developing participatory programs and train Community Musicians across Germany.
Our work is aimed at people of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities – no prior musical experience needed. All our activities are accessible and inclusive, and we systematically evaluate their social impact, guided by our principle: Everyone is an artist.
