About us
The Committee Against Bird Slaughter (CABS) is a nature conservation organisation founded in 1975 that campaigns for better protection of migratory birds from poaching and bird trapping. Our work focuses on the Mediterranean region, where we are active every year in all the hotspots of poaching - from Spain in the west to Lebanon in the east. During the mainly voluntary missions, illegal bird traps and mist nets are collected and the perpetrators are convicted and brought to justice together with the authorities. Even though the work against hunting traditions is very lengthy, we have already had notable successes in the first 50 years. These include the ban on bird trapping in Italy and Belgium and the significant reduction in poaching in France, southern Italy, Sardinia and eastern Spain. Much remains to be done in northern Italy, Greece, Lebanon and Cyprus. Our work in the Mediterranean region is financed purely by donations.
