Terra Boa Child Protection Center, Sal, Cape Verde
The AACTB, Associação Apoio as Crianças de Terra Boa, was founded in 2010 by the German Anne Seiler together with six Cape Verdean women. The association helps the "forgotten children" from the illegal shanty town of Terra Boa in its Terra Boa Child Protection Center. Currently, 300 children between the ages of 3 and 18 are cared for from Monday to Friday. The younger children are cared for all day in the kindergarten. Older children of school age are cared for after school. The AACTB currently employs 14 Cape Verdean staff. The association is financed entirely by private donations and receives no support from the state of Cape Verde or the municipality.
In Germany, the AACTB is represented by the Cape Verde Children's Aid Association, Cologne. This non-profit association is run on a voluntary basis and sees itself as a development association that supports the operation of the Child Protection Center with its donations.
