About us

The organisation came into existence in 1980 out of the outreach work of the Uniting Reformed Churches in Lavender Hill and Steenberg and later St Mark Anglican Church. The buildings and other infrastructure were built during the 80s and needs urgent upgrades. The community context is characterized by extreme levels of poverty as evident by the rates of unemployment, violence, and substance abuse. Over time the strategic shift was away from welfare related services to community, social and economic development programmes. Our educational pipeline provides us with multiple inroads into the community, from our ECD, to our Afterschool, to our Skills Training Programmes, we can reach a range of beneficiary groups. The goal of the Early Childhood Development Centre is to provide children with learning opportunities within a safe, conducive environment that enables them to develop to their full potential. The ECD Centre has been one of the organisation’s flagship programmes.
