Tortuga Eschersheim e. V. – Community garden at the water tower
As part of the National Climate Protection Initiative, the "Tortuga Eschersheim" community garden at the water tower (a listed Eschersheim landmark) was founded in 2018 with funding from the Federal Ministry for the Environment and Nature Conservation and with the support of the City of Frankfurt and the Frankfurt Parks Office (Grünflächenamt). The aim of the funding was to carry out climate protection projects at neighborhood level and to increase the quality of life in the neighborhood through stronger cohesion in the neighborhood. The funding was limited to the period from January 1, 2018 to December 31, 2019. The project was funded by Transition Town Frankfurt e.V. (at the same time as two other climate protection projects at neighborhood level in the neighboring districts of Heddernheim and Ginnheim).
To consolidate the project, project participants from the neighborhood founded the association "Tortuga Eschersheim e.V." on December 9, 2019. The association serves the community garden as a corporation (= long-term association of people) and promotes charitable purposes (environmental protection and allotment gardening).

Utes Erdbeerbeet
Im Dezember 2025 mussten wir Abschied nehmen von unserer lieben Nachbarin, Freundin und Mitgärtnerin Ute Heimann. Seit 2020 engagierte sie sich bei unserem Gemeinschaftsgarten. Besonders ans Herz gewachsen war Ute ein Beet mit Erdbeeren.
Dieses Beet erhielt den Spitznamen "Utes Erdbeerbeet". Wie Ute, überstand auch dieses Beet den letzten Winter nicht. Das Hochbeet war alt. Das Holz war morsch und alles fing an, auseinanderzubrechen.
Wir haben vor knapp einem Monat, am 22. März 2026, die Pflanzen aus Utes Erdbeerbeet ausgepflanzt, die Erde aus dem alten Hochbeet herausgeschippt, die Erdbeeren in das Nachbarbeet eingepflanzt, das morsche Beet abgerissen, und dessen Stelle ein neues Hocheet errichtet. Wir erfuhren erst hinterher, dass am 23. März Utes Geburtstag gewesen wäre. Zufall? Keine Ahnung.
Die Erdbeeren hatten nun jedenfalls an Utes Geburstag 2026 ein neues Zuhause – genauso, wie Ute nun auch ein neues Zuhause hat. "Utes Erdbeerbeet" bleibt lebendig. Die Erinnerung an sie auch. Utes Erdbeeren haben nun angefangen zu blühen. Wie schön!
