Tortuga Eschersheim e. V. – Community garden at the water tower

As part of the National Climate Protection Initiative, the "Tortuga Eschersheim" community garden at the water tower (a listed Eschersheim landmark) was founded in 2018 with funding from the Federal Ministry for the Environment and Nature Conservation and with the support of the City of Frankfurt and the Frankfurt Parks Office (Grünflächenamt). The aim of the funding was to carry out climate protection projects at neighborhood level and to increase the quality of life in the neighborhood through stronger cohesion in the neighborhood. The funding was limited to the period from January 1, 2018 to December 31, 2019. The project was funded by Transition Town Frankfurt e.V. (at the same time as two other climate protection projects at neighborhood level in the neighboring districts of Heddernheim and Ginnheim).

To consolidate the project, project participants from the neighborhood founded the association "Tortuga Eschersheim e.V." on December 9, 2019. The association serves the community garden as a corporation (= long-term association of people) and promotes charitable purposes (environmental protection and allotment gardening).
