About us
In November 2017, Dr. Karsten Paust, project manager Ryner Linuma and cataract surgeon Erick Msigomba initiated the “Prevention of avoidable blindness project” in western Tanzania with its remote regions of Rukwa, Katavi and Kigoma.
A large international team and the TanZanEye e.V. association work hand in hand to ensure that (eye) health is distributed more fairly in regions that are catastrophically under-served. As if the people in this remote region have no right to sight. 80% of visual impairments are preventable or treatable - through education, medication, surgery or simply with glasses.
TanZanEye is professionally set up, and 100% of donations go to the project. There are numerous collaborations with other organizations. The project is integrated into local structures and designed for sustainability.

Aktuelles: · Im Oktober 2025 fand ein Fünftes eye-camp am Kabanga referral hospital (Region Kigoma) und surgical eye camp in Mpanda und Sumbawanga statt mit 3 Schwerpunkten: Operationen durch lokale Operateure unter Supervision einiger erfahrener Augenchirurg:innen, die Schulung von über 200 primary health worker als Bindeglied zwischen der Bevölkerung in entlegenen Gebieten und den augenmedizinischen Fachkräften, und Sustainability talks in den drei Regionen mit den Health managern der 3 Diözesen, den Klinikdirektoren (Head of department) und der jeweiligen Krankenhaus- und Personalverwaltung.
