About us
rster Weiblicher Aufbruch - das EWA. The founding call for EWA was made on December 3, 1989, during the legendary women's meeting at the Berlin Volksbühne with the goal of establishing a women's center in the Prenzlauer Berg district. EWA was a child of the Wende, a rapid birth in the wake of the now legendary women's meeting at the Berlin Volksbühne. On April 20, 1990, EWA celebrated a founding celebration. Shortly thereafter, according to a municipal decree, EWA became a "subordinate institution of the municipal administration, Equal Opportunities Department" with the name "First Berlin Women's Center." When the registered association EWA became the sponsor of the women*'s center on January 1, 1991, the first bureaucratic hurdle was overcome. At the same time, the association was refounded according to "Westrecht law," and EWA was given the name "EWA e.V. - Women*'s Center," which remains in use today.
