About us

La Obrita is a privately funded community project focusing of education for the 53 children living in poverty.The infrastructure is complete including:a workshop for artisan education, an art gallery, communal kitchen, classroom, visitor accomodation, mini zoo, and a 4 hectar parcel of land planted newly planted in coffee and cotton.It is located 15 minutes from Nauta on the banks of the Marañon river.It is a fishing and farming community.The children are producing artisan work to sell to tourists and have learned traditional danes to perform for visitors.The emphasis is on learning skills to better their families economic situation.In addition, medical care and education.Diana is a 53 year old retired EFL teacher and a RPCV.She recently sold her home of 15 years in Trujillo, Peru and invested it all in the project.She is from Washington state and has been living in Peru for 16 years.La Obrita needs a small amount of donations to put the finishing touches on the project to make it economically solvent .Tourists are accomodated for free and invited to help the children in any manner they choose.
