About us

The non-profit Naturwald Akademie is a non-governmental, independent research and educational institution. Its goal is to promote natural forests, protect old trees, and provide information about ecological forest management. The Academy prepares nature conservation analyses of Central European forests and researches the climate protection potential of natural forests. For this purpose, it conducts research independently as well as in cooperation with universities and works together with numerous nature conservation organizations and citizens' initiatives. She informs interested practitioners, scientists and conservationists by providing up-to-date, annotated studies. She is the editor of the Alternative Forest Status Report and annually awards the Natural Forest Prize to graduates.
