The German Chess Federation (DSB) is the umbrella organization of chess players in Germany and has about 92,000 members in about 2,400 clubs. This makes it one of the largest chess federations in the world. It organizes the Club Championships up to the 2nd Bundesliga, the German Individual Championships and participates with its squad players in international competitions.
A special concern is the spreading of the game of chess in Germany: because chess is more than just a hobby, it is at the same time sport, science and culture. Chess can bring people together peacefully regardless of their physical condition and cultural background.
And chess promotes the positive development of personality and mental abilities such as strategic thinking and concentration. The DSB is therefore committed to establishing chess as a teaching subject or leisure activity in as many schools as possible.
