About us
EL CAPITÁN animal project e.V. has been committed to helping stray cats on the Canary Island of Fuerteventura for over 20 years.
Due to the mild climate, tourism, and uncontrolled breeding, many cats on the island live without protection or access to medical care. Our approach is long-term and locally focused: sustainable cat welfare begins directly on Fuerteventura.
We deliberately do not operate a shelter or a traditional rescue facility. Instead, we focus on continuous spay and neuter programs, medical treatment, management of existing cat colonies, and educational outreach.
A central component of our work is the ECap Medical Fund. It creates lasting medical stability and enables reliable, structured assistance in cases of injury, illness, and emergencies. This ensures that medical decisions are never left to chance.
Our goal is to sustainably reduce feline suffering, improve living conditions on the island, and foster long-term acceptance of the cats living there.
