As a South African living in Germany, I chose not to ignore the problems in my country. So I started supporting various projects while on holiday. Since 10 years we are a registered foundation in Germany. In 2010 we started supporting the AIDS orphans from the villages close to the border of Lesotho. Yumelela is a place where the orphans have a safe refuge. We also have “social orphans” whose parents have forsaken them to find work in the cities. Their promised support for these children has unfortunately never happened. Most of the children are traumatized. We support them in their grief and encourage them to collect/keep objects from their parents in a special “Memory Box”. These objects comfort them in tough times.
The children need school books and start-up-support when they finish school to enable them to qualify and eventually find work.

Wir möchten unseren Jugendlichen die Chance auf eine bessere Zukunft geben, indem wir ihnen den Besuch der besten Schulen ermöglichen. Da diese jedoch 70 km entfernt liegen, müssen die Jugendlichen dort wohnen und benötigen dafür dringend Schuluniformen, Schulbücher und tägliche Mahlzeiten. Nur mit dieser Unterstützung haben sie die Möglichkeit, ihren schulischen Weg fortzusetzen und später eine höhere Schule zu besuchen oder eine Ausbildung zu beginnen – eine Chance, die ihr Leben nachhaltig verändern kann.
