About us

The Friends & Supporters of Ziegelstein Elementary School e.V. support school life at Ziegelstein Elementary School by financing projects and organizing workshops.
However, the greatest need for work and funding at present is in organizing tutoring and homework supervision for children with special needs who are identified by their regular teachers and who, as a rule, cannot obtain the support they need elsewhere (e.g., those with several siblings in cramped living conditions, single working parents, a migrant background, and language difficulties). Due to two refugee shelters in the area and a lack of places in integration classes, children with sometimes completely lacking language skills must be cared for by us due to compulsory schooling.
Approximately 40 children are looked after on 3 days, often several times a week, by around 10 volunteers and a coordinator on a mini-job basis, totaling over 1000 hours per year.
