The Little Sun Foundation was founded by artist Olafur Eliasson and delivers solar lamps to communities in humanitarian crisis and students living off the grid. Our goal is to improve access to safe and sustainable solar light and energy, tapping into our established relationships with NGOs and Humanitarian agencies to deliver lamps effectively and efficiently.
Access to clean energy parallels access to almost every major opportunity in life: access to jobs, security, reliable food production, gender equality and better health. Sustainable light transforms lives, economies and the planet. Help us bring Little Sun to those most in need!
Thank you for your support!
Thanks to your donations, the Little Sun Foundation and our partner Safer Rwanda successfully distributed 3,500 solar lamps and 100 solar phone chargers across five primary schools in Kamonyi District, Rwanda in February 2018.
The early feedback has been hugely encouraging. “I can now help my parents on the field and use the lamp at night to do my homework,” Tuyisenge, an 11-year-old student in the district told us. “Also, I’m glad to have a light when I go outside after dark.”
The teachers have also responded positively after receiving solar phone chargers, enabling them to save time and money spent travelling long distances to charge their phones. You can read our brand new blog post about this distribution and watch our video here. More detailed monitoring and evaluation of the project is underway, and we will be sharing more stories from the participating schools over the coming months.
We are now preparing to roll out the Solar Schools programme across Kamonyi District, and your help in sharing and supporting our cause is the only way that we can prolong this important work.
To push our message out further, we are holding an official launch event for the Little Sun Foundation, to coincide with Earth Hour on Saturday 24th March 2018. We will be speaking about the impact of the foundation so far, and providing refreshments, workshops for children, and the chance to take part in some Sunlight Graffiti. If you can't make it to our Berlin office, then it's also possible to join us online via livestream. Follow the link below to see more information and how to register for the event.
Thank you once again for all your support, and we will be in touch again soon!
