Community Based Environmental Conservation - COBEC

About us

COBEC is a Not for Profit Community Based Organization registered in 2005 with the Ministry of Social services, Gender and children affairs Malindi sub County of Kilifi County. COBEC is governed by a board of management which comprises of the chairperson, Secretary, Treasurer and 2 Members. The board provides policy and strategic direction and oversight to the programme secretariat. The main goal of COBEC is to conserve marine biodiversity through conservation education, preservation of habitats and protection of marine wildlife. COBEC's mission is to facilitate and empower local people to manage and conserve marine biodiversity through their active participation.

Since 2009, the organization has been working with fishermen and local communities in mangrove planting and reforestation programmes among others. The organization has implemented projects funded by DANIDA, New England Aquarium, Conservation International and the Rufford Foundation.
