About us

Together with 135 volunteers and 20 full-time staff, we as the non-profit organization ZWEITZEUGEN e. V. encourage and enable (young) people throughout Germany to actively stand up as second witnesses against anti-Semitism and other forms of discrimination today. Through the personal stories of Holocaust survivors, we make history tangible and more understandable. To ensure that contemporary witnesses do not fall silent, we talk about their lives before, during and after the Holocaust. In workshops, exhibitions and various events, we enable (young) people to get to know the contemporary witnesses through personal and empathetic stories, to preserve their memories and to pass them on as second witnesses. The personal life stories about hobbies, friendships, losses and the continuation of life after 1945 offer moments of identification and can be a source for compassion. So far, around 21,000 children and young people have become second witnesses.
