Kamae-Soweto slums, in Nairobi County, Kenya in East Africa. This is where the Green Dstar Centre, a community based organisation has established Dstar School to provide both formal and non-formal education to youths in the slums. The school is one years old but the response is overwhelming. The general picture of slum dwellers in Nairobi is people living in abject poverty with high rates of mortality due to sickness and insecurity. More than half of the population comprises of the youths with about 95% being unemployed school drop-outs. There is need for urgent but long term solution. Research shows that integrated education is the best solution to such a problem. Training the school drop-outs in hands-on-skills empowers them to earn a living rightfully improving the general living standards of the slum
