About us
„World’s Oceans are in Peril“
To bring the daily mismanagement and the resulting dangers to the world’s seas to a wider audience, well, that is the aim of the charitable organization DEEPWAVE which was established in 2003 by biologists and nature protectionists in Hamburg. DEEPWAVE works on a national and international level, as a political lobbyist to promote consciousness in matters of marine conservation. As a member of the Deep-Sea Conservation Coalition, DEEPWAVE argues for an extension of marine protection areas over and above the 200 sea-mile zone, and demands an end to deep-sea bottom trawling in order to protect the sensitive cold water corals. Together with the Shark Alliance DEEPWAVE promotes better protection of sharks and an end to “finning” and the trade in shark fins, as well as a radical reform of the Common European Fisheries Policy within the framework of the “Ocean 2012”-Campaign.
Various membership activities, exhibitions, lectures and information brochures, currently dealing with marine litter, offer the engaged friends of the seas a detailed platform of knowledge where he/she can inform themselves on matters of a sustainable ocean protection policy.

Dank eurer Spenden können wir auf Hochtouren unser diesjähriges DEEPWAVE Filmfestival zum Schutz der Meere am 12. Juni in Hamburg vorbereiten. Über 300 internationale Einreichungen haben uns erreicht, aus denen wir ein Programm aus Arthouse-, Kunst-, Dokumentar- und Meeresschutzprojektfilmen zusammenstellen. Passend zu den sich aus den Einreichungen ergebenden Themenblöcken sind wir dabei, Referent:innen anzufragen, die wie jedes Jahr unserem engagierten Publikum Rede und Antwort stehen werden. Außerdem haben wir wieder einen Kurzfilm als Opener des Festivals in Auftrag gegeben, der auf künstlerische Weise die Verbindung von Mensch und Meeresnatur spürbar werden lässt. Da unser Filmfestival wie immer über 5 Stunden geht, unterfüttern wir das filmische auch mit echtem Brainfood.
Unser Meeresfilmfestival gilt als Referenz, wie in diesen Zeiten einer durch Negativitätsspiralen getriggerten Aufmerksamkeit Meeresthemen positiv kommuniziert werden können.
