On Call Africa is a non-profit organisation, dedicated to improving healthcare in rural communities in Zambia. It has three strategic aims:
1. To bring teams of volunteers into isolated and difficult to reach areas in Zambia, and provide medical care through the use of mobile medical clinics.
2. To focus on the prevention of ill health in rural areas by providing health education.
3. To work towards a system of sustainable medical care by training community health workers in target areas.
In 2011 a team of medical volunteers travelled to Zambia’s Southern Province to undertake a six month pilot project. During this period, the team conducted medical consultations with over 6000 patients, and offered health education to thousands more. On Call Africa is currently based in the town of Livingstone, Zambia, and provides monthly mobile medical services to nine rural areas of the southern province of Zambia.
