managed by Upendo R.
Upendo Rescue Center (upendo means “love” in Kiswahili) is situated on a small patch of land on the edge of Nairobi’s Mukuru slum. It is a Primary school for orphans and underprivileged children in the slum. Around 300 of the slum’s most disadvantaged children gather here for the education they otherwise would never have received. Many are orphaned; others just desperately poor. The children find at Upendo Rescue Center not only free education but also an alternative to crime and violence as well as positive adult role models.
